Walk in the popular Hatzimichali Daliani

Hatzimichalis Dalianis was an Epirotian hero of 1821.
Hatzimichali Daliani Street, named after him, is one of the busiest pedestrian streets in the Old Town.

In the past it was called “rope shops” as here they made the ropes known to all of us from the fibers of the cactus under the name “athanatos”.

Today it is the street of the most famous restaurants in the city, which from the afternoon until almost the early hours of the morning is buzzing with life!

Good, neat food, Cretan delicacies but also special tastes, sweets, coffee, raki, refreshing cocktails but above all happy faces of all ages, relaxed, summer mood.

Here you will find one of the two minarets that are preserved in the city of Chania.

The minaret dedicated to Haseki Ahmet Aga, the leader of the janissaries who lived in the opposite barracks, today’s 1st Gymnasium (now Experimental).

At the entrance of the minaret there is the inscription:
“Lailaheillallah Muhammed resulullah” (There is no other God but Allah and Muhammad is his prophet).

You will find the other surviving minaret in Splantzia Square at the church of Agios Nikolaos.
